About Us – Oral Medicine & Radiology
Overview:
Oral medicine is the specialty of dentistry concerned with the basic diagnostic procedures and techniques useful in recognizing the diseases of the oral tissues of local and constitutional origin and their medical management. The science of oral medicine also enables the astute observer in diagnosing several systemic ailments by virtue of their oral manifestations.
The Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology is the first point of contact for all patients reporting to the Manav Rachna Dental College for oral and/or related complaints. It forms the interface between the practice of general medicine and dentistry.
A protocol of detailed case recording (including history and clinical examination) supported by relevant investigations is used to establish the diagnosis and plan the management. The paradigm shift towards digital imaging the world over is reflected in the recently acquired, state of the art digital panoramic/cephalometric x ray unit by the department. The department is well on the road to using environment friendly imaging technology with a dedicated LAN based image transfer facility.
Dento Maxillofacial Radiology is the science dealing with X – rays and their uses in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases in relation to orofacial tissues.
Scope
To give clinical diagnosis of oral diseases
To give clinical diagnosis of systemic diseases based on oral findings
Performing investigations and treatment planning in management of oral diseases
Radiological and imageological workup of oral diseases and give a radiological diagnosis
Non-surgical management of oral diseases where applicable
Dental management of medically compromised patients
Management of medical emergencies in dentistry
Location/ area/equipments:-The department is situated on the ground floor of the North –East wing and is spread over an area of over 5000 sq. ft.
The department of Oral Medicine and Radiology at MRDC is equipped with the latest intra oral and extra oral (panoramic and cephalometric) digital imaging systems in addition to 17 state of the art electronic dental chair/units. The radiology section has stringent radiation protection norms in place.
