First Virtual International Conference on Recent Advancements in Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation
The Department of Physiotherapy, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Manav Rachna International Institute of Research & Studies organized the First Virtual International Conference on Recent Advancements in Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation 2020 from 9th – 11th October.
This conference was aimed primarily to fill the significant gaps and about finding and utilizing the best technologies to reduce disability. Advances in rehabilitation contrast dramatically with advances in all other medical areas. As new technologies enter the market or the research development track, physical therapists increasingly are in positions to either guide or lead the development team, working with engineers to adapt and modify existing technologies or develop new technologies to enhance rehabilitation, prevent decline, monitor change or maintain healthy living.
A total of 12 internationally & nationally renowned speakers lent support to this historical virtual conference. The chief guest for the inaugural ceremony was Dr. Amit Bhalla, Vice President, MREI, and Dr. Sanjay Shrivastava, Vice-Chancellor MRIIRS graced the ceremony as the guest of honor.
This conference was inaugurated by the welcome address by Prof. Dr. Moattar Raza Rizvi, Dean & Officiating HoD.
The eminent speakers of the day were Prof. (Dr.) Ali Irani – Head of Department of Physiotherapy at Nanavati Superspeciality Hospital; Dr. Deepak Kumar, Director & Sr. Consultant Manual Physiotherapy; Dr. Pooja Anand, Associate Dean, SGT University, Gurugram University, and Dr. Fuzail Ahmad, Head of Quality Assurance and Academic Accreditation at the College of Applied Medical Sciences, Majmaah University, Saudi Arabia.
The second day of the conference started with the eminent presence of Dr. Naveen Ganer, HOD Jindal Institute of Medical Sciences, Hisar who explained meticulously on the evidence-based Modern manipulation through his session “Alternatives in manipulation -the coming trend”.
Dr. Uma Sankar Mohanty, Ex-President of Indian Association of Physiotherapy and founder of Manual Therapy Foundation of India also imparted his valuable inputs. His emphasis was on Cranio-Sacral connections, analysis, and manual therapy.
Dr. Shyamala Buragadda, a researcher in the rehabilitation department of King Saud University, Riyadh and an Active member of recovery and performance laboratory, St. Johns, Canada. The last session was delivered by Dr. Nitika Sarangi, presently working as a Disability analyst, NHS (UK).
The conference also witnessed Paper presentations from various presenters of different universities on various themes proposed by the scientific committee. There were more than 25 participants and 6 judges from different universities.
The third day started with a session by Dr. Subhash Khatri, Principal, Nootan College of Physiotherapy, Sankalchand Patel University, Visnagar, Gujarat, and he explained the Recent Advancement in manual therapy Concepts in Shoulder Therapy. It was followed by a session from Dr. Asha Chitnis, an acclaimed Physiotherapist nationally & internationally, Clinical Director and Founder of Vedanta Program a multi-disciplinary, pediatric out-patient practice, in Mumbai.
Dr. Jaspreet Malik (Ph.D.) Assistant Professor at Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar explained hidden clinical knowledge of knee and its pathologies, thinking Beyond the Knee pain. Last but not least the last session was presented by Dr. Anila Garikipati, Ph. D from Loma Linda University and employed at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Abilene, Texas as a chairperson of the Stroke committee and certified NDT specialist. The major outcome of her topic of discussion was the Importance of Core Control in Stroke patients using NDT.
The conference was concluded by the valedictory ceremony headed by Mr. R. K Arora, Registrar, MRIIRS and Dr. N.C. Wadhwa IAS (Retd.), Director-General – MREI, where Dr. Gurjeet Chawla, Dean- Student Welfare and Director – RMR, Dr. Sarita Sachdeva, Dean Research MRIIRS and Dr.MR Rizvi, Dean FAHS, and other faculty members were as panelists. Winners from different sections were awarded and certificates were distributed for paper and poster presentations. The selected papers will be published in Scopus indexed journal.
The conference was attended online by more than 350 participants.
