9th Manav Rachna Corporate Cricket Challenge Cup

Come winter and cricket is clearly the flavor of the season at Manav Rachna Educational Institutions (MREI). The 9th Corporate Cricket Challenge Cup dedicated in the memory of our Founder Visionary Dr. O P Bhalla was inaugurated today at the MREI campus. Dr. Prashant Bhalla, President, MREI; Dr. Amit Bhalla, VP, MREI; Dr. M M Kathuria; Dr. NC Wadhwa, Vice Chancellor, MRIU; Dr. Sanjay Srivastava, MD-MREI & VC, MRU; Mr. Sarkar Talwar, Director Sports, MREI along with the Captains of the 28 participating teams and all the Deans and Directors of Manav Rachna Institutions were present on the occasion.

The inaugural match was played between defending champions TCS and Indian Oil. The toss was won by TCS who elected to bat first!

While inaugurating the tournament, Dr. Prashant Bhalla, President, MREI said: The Tournament is the brainchild of Founder Chairman Dr O.P. Bhalla whose visionary zeal and enterprising mission brought about an ideal amalgam of sports and academia, infusing every Manavite with the true spirit of sportsmanship. He believed that triumphs and tribulations are a part of life and sports gives everyone a level playing field. Dr O.P. Bhalla’s idea of total education involved not just academic achievements, but also sporting excellence where students imbibe the qualities of leadership, tolerance, sharing and team-spirit. Manav Rachna has strong relationships with corporates, which only get strengthened with such friendly matches”.

The Corporate Cricket Challenge packs in loads of excitement with 28 top corporates wielding the willow at the lush green grounds. With top corporates like Maruti Suzuki, TCS, Indian Oil, NDTV, RBS, Jagran Group, Honda, JCB, Fortis, Adidas, Accenture, Suzuki Motorcycle, Australian High Commission, Sports Scribe, Aaj Tak, IIFLW, Escorts, Knorr-Bremse, NHAI, Supreme Court Advocates Cricket Association, Asian Hospital, Dabur, CLASS, HP, Larsen& Toubro and Prasar Bharti putting their best foot forward, highly competitive matches are expected over the next two months.

Addressing the teams on the field, Dr. Amit Bhalla said: Manav Rachna prides itself in creating a seamless synergy between sports and academia, promoting a robust relationship between the corporate and academic world. Such matches take us away from our mundane daily competitive schedules into our school and college days. Each one of us and the participating teams eagerly wait for this tournament. The most important thing is that this tournament stands on the biggest pillar- of discipline, discipline in every aspect of the game which differentiates it from the other tournaments”.

Mr. Sarkar Talwar, Director Sports, MREI reiterates, “Manav Rachna would continue to nurture and encourage cricketing talent–fostering sportsmanship and co-operation among players and students.” He further added: “Let the spirit of sportsmanship prevail, whatever you, do it with fire inside you”.

The finals of the tournament will be held in the third week of March 2016.
