MRIU hosted the ‘Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA)’ at the MRIU campus from January 8-10, 2016
Manav Rachna International University was host to one of the biggest Rotary events involving the participation of 300 plus Rotarians who stayed at the MRIU campus from January 8-10, 2016. RYLA—the ‘Rotary Youth Leadership Awards–was Rotary’s leadership training program for the youth to help them grow as better citizens, good human beings and able leaders. The event had in attendance students from various schools, colleges and universities across Delhi-NCR such as Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce, Delhi University; Delhi Technical University; Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology; Sri Ram College of Commerce; Daulat Ram college; Modern School, Barakhamba Road; Air Force Bal Bharti, Lodhi Road; Birla Vidhya Niketan, Pushp Vihar, New Delhi; Green Field’s School, New Delhi and Sanskriti School, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi.
The first day of RYLA at MRIU proved to be highly inspirational for the Rotarian youths as they received invaluable inputs and guidance from stalwarts in academia and industry. The inaugural session was graced by DG Rtn. Sudhir Mangla; Dr Sanjay Srivastava, Managing Director, MREI and Vice Chancellor, MRU; Dr N.C. Wadhwa, Vice Chancellor, MRIU; Mr. Sarkar Talwar, Director-Sports, MREI; Rtn. Ajay Narain, among others. Speaking on the occasion, DG Rtn. Sudhir Mangla encouraged the Youths “to be humble and lead from the front as future leaders” and defined the purpose of the event, stating, “You are here to learn, explore and channelize your energy in the right direction.”
Addressing the youth, Dr N.C. Wadhwa, Vice Chancellor, Manav Rachna International University, said, “The strength of a nation depends on the country’s youth. We will leave no stone unturned to ensure that we provide you with inputs to help you evolve both professionally and personally since domain knowledge and skills is not enough in today’s competitive scenario.”
While talking to Rotarian youths on the subject of Leadership, Dr Sanjay Srivastava, Managing Director, MREI outlined the nature of Fortune 500 companies saying, “They are all disciplined, empirical in nature and have shown an element of paranoia.” Dr Srivastava also emphasized upon four leadership qualities: “All leaders are known as top class learners, they laugh and are full of life; they are part of the solution and not the problem and create lasting impressions.”
The second day’s session comprised a series of intellectually stimulating sessions on ‘Skills Development’, ‘Offbeat Careers’ and ‘India and the World’, conducted by experts from Manav Rachna Educational Institutions. The second day was also high on entertainment as Cricket, tug of war, music and more gave the youth ample scope for fun and excitement. It was the same spirit which continued right till the end on the third day as a zumba class conducted by faculty members from Manav Rachna International School, Charmwood, got feet tapping. Rotarians, Rotaracts and Interacts were awarded prizes and certificates of appreciation for their proficiency in various activities in course of the three-day event.
RYLA finally wrapped up with a group photo session and thanksgiving to MRIU, Rotarians and participating students who went back with memories to cherish forever.
