Photo 1Team Cronos from Manav Rachna Educational Institutions (MREI) comprising students Akash Lohan, Anjan Kar, Sahil Tanwar, Rahul Sharma and Himanshi Bhadana bagged the second prize for its coveted project “Klodo” – a cloth donation initiative at the Imagine Cup National Finals held in New Delhi. Incidentally, four teams from MREI: Cronos, Sinnx, Entourage and E2 participated in the competition in the ‘World Citizenship’ and ‘Gaming Category’. More than 10,000 contestants participated in the event from which only 27 teams were shortlisted for the national finals. Project Klodo grabbed the limelight through its unique and innovative technique of reaching out to citizens for a noble cause with the aim of helping the underprivileged. The Team’s project is based on an application which connects the donors to NGOs. Citizens are invited to save a number and WhatsApp the instructions which include: clicking a picture of the clothes to be donated, mentioning the number of clothes in the caption area and sending the donor’s location. A pickup service is provided by the NGOs for those wanting to donate clothes.

Expressing deep appreciation for their win, Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Srivastava, MD, Manav Rachna Educational Institutions, said, “We are immensely proud of our students for their thought provoking creation which is both technologically sound and user-friendly. Their support for the noble cause reinforces our belief that we have succeeded in inculcating the right values among our students to help them evolve as better human beings.”

“It took us two months to put the project together while another 3-4 months would go towards implementing the idea. Once we find acceptance of this concept, we hope to launch the app commercially”, says Akash Lohan. His friend and team mate Anjan Kar is all praises for his Faculty members saying, “Our mentors had gone all out to encourage us in this initiative and give us technical guidance and support. We can never forget their invaluable contribution.”

The results are amply evident as the team of evaluators at the Imagine Cup National Finals greatly appreciated the youths for creating a project that was as simple as it was effective, and all for a noble cause that is bound to touch hearts.
