HACK THE MOUNTAINS 3.0 on Emerging Technologies & Its Applications

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, FET, Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies (MRIIRS) hosted the inaugural of two-day International Hybrid Hackathon (17th to 18th September 2022)., Hack the Mountains 3.0 on 17th Sept 2022, 10:00 am onwards.

Hack The Mountains 3.0, is a Hybrid Hackathon, designed especially for the needs of the community and provides the perfect chance to showcase skills and witness a competitive yet inclusive developer community around it. After the tremendous success of HTM 1.0 and HTM 2.0, with 3300+ participants, 300+ real-time projects, and 55+ Qubit Sessions in our previous version, MRIIRS joined the hands with Sudan Tech for launching the 3rd version of this Hackathon to propel great opportunities and provide a platform to showcase students skills and creativity and develop technical knowledge alongside building real-time solutions with people from across the globe!

The event commenced on 17th September 2022 in the presence, of Guest of Honor, Mr. Nick Quinlan, Chief Operating Officer, Major League Hacking, USA, Guest of Honour, Mr. Kanishk Gaur, Founder, Indian Future Foundation, Gurgaon, Chief Guest, Dr. V.K.Panchal, Former Director and Scientist ‘G’ of Defence Terrain Research Lab (DRDO), Dr. Pardeep Kumar, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Dean FET & FAD, MRIIRS, Dr. Geeta Nijhawan, Associate Dean, FET, MRIIRS, Dr. Tapas Kumar Professor & Head Deptt. of CSE (Specialization), FET, MRIIRS, Mr. Anmol and Mr. Mohit Sharma, Organizers of Hack the Mountains, faculty members, students, and participants of various institutions.

The inaugural session started with the Welcome Address by Dr. Pardeep Kumar, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Dean-FET, MRIIRS. He welcomed the Chief Guest, Guest of Honor, higher officials, and participants, and outlined the role of the Hackathon in the new vistas of learning. Sir focused on the vision of Manav Rachna and encouraged these kinds of collaborations between industry and education institutions to ignite young minds. Sir shared with the audience that 300+ coding students, 500+ international students, 20+ countries, and 4000+ registrations have participated in Hack the Mountains 3.0.

Mr. Nick congratulated the organizing team for organizing the Hackathon that focused on emerging areas. He explained the role of MLH, the chief organization of America in conducting these Hackathons. Mr. Nick explained the benefits of participating in these competitions and MLH organizes these technical competitions every month. He suggested the student community join Global Online communities to enhance their career. He shared the details of partners and active sister concerns of MLH.

Dr. V.K. Panchal, Former Director, and Scientist ‘G’ of Defence Terrain Research Lab (DRDO) appreciated Mr. Nick for mobilizing the audience dynamically. Sir emphasized that the problem is a simplified solution. He focused on mastering the higher-end structures such as pointers of any programming language. He suggested students focus on common factors of any problem to save time and form a cluster with big organizations such as Google, Amazon, etc. 

Mr. Kanishk Gaur, Founder, Indian Future Foundation, Gurgaon, emphasized the role of skill development and quoted examples of entrepreneurs like physics wala, mesh, zomato which are globally recognized Indian start-ups. He explained how education is changing from just imparting knowledge to building entrepreneurs. He suggested the student convert ideas to opportunities. He explained to students the importance of practicals being conducted as lab work and staying connected with classmates, teachers to build good teams. He advised students to focus on one technology and gain expertise in that. He quoted the example of Israel where Families work in a team to develop a product that has an impact on society. 

 Mr. Anmol and Mr. Mohit Sharma briefed about Hack the Mountain in collaboration with Sudan Tech in Jammu and Kashmir. He shared the statistics of this Hackathon and briefed about the various sponsors such as MLH, Lighthouse, Hack to Skills, Komat, etc. They both explained the emerging tracks that define various problem statements which have been provided to the student to develop solutions. This time there are 8 tracks as mentioned: Healthcare, Education, Blockchain, Environment, AR/VR, Energy, Open Innovation, and Diversity. Mr. Mohit then apprised students about the prize money and explained various track prizes.

The 36 hours Hackathon was declared open by Dr. V.K Panchal. All the participants across the nation and globe have chosen their problem domains as specified: Education, HealthCare, AR/VR, Open Innovation, Environment, Diversity, Energy, and Blockchain.

A total of 3501 participants from 268 colleges and 20 Indian states, participated in the Hack the Mountains 3.0 and across the globe, No. of participants is 503 with No. of Colleges/Universities:176 and 68 countries. In total 4004 participants have participated out of which 429 attended offline and 3575 are online. The overnight challenge was conducted in T Block, MRIIRS campus. Each team under various tracks was assigned mentors having expertise in various technical skills such as HTML, CSS, React, NextJs, Javascript, Typescript, Sass, Python, C++, Docker, NodeJs, Express.js, MongoDB, Automation, SQL, Tailwind, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Deep Learning, Data Science, etc. Lunch to the participants, students, and faculty members, in a mess, at around 2 pm, took place. The Hackathon continued in the evening also.

The mentoring session started at 7 pm in the evening when the teams were provided with suggestions and remarks to hack the defined problem. This lasted for around one hour, followed by dinner and fun activities.

Day 2 (18th Sept 2022)

Day 2 of the Hackathon commenced with a Mini event by HTM Team at 10:00 am for half an hour. This was followed by a speaker session and MLH event each lasting for 30 minutes.  The Hackathon further continued till lunch.  Post lunch, the teams were asked for final submission by 5:00 pm. After this, the judgement round begins at 5:30 pm. The Hackathon was judged by esteemed judges from eminent industries. The evaluation parameters were Innovation, Feasibility, Scalability, Social Impact, and Wow Factor.  Details are as below: Pawan Singhla , Zunpulse, Dr. Nitin K. The valedictory session began at 9:00 pm on day2 by opening remarks of Ms Shweta Sharma and Ms. Meghna. They welcomed event Chief Guest, Mr. Santanu Dev, Technical Strategy& Program Life Cycle Expert, Interra Information Technologies, Mr Nick, Chief Operating Officer, Major League Hacking, Dr Tapas Kumar, Professor and Head, CSE (SPL.), Mr Mohit and Mr Anmol, Sudan’s Tech, all Faculty members and the participants to the valedictory ceremony of 2 days international Hybrid Hackathon Hack the Mountain 3.0.. Mr. Santanu Dev addressed the gathering and motivated the participants to engage in such kinds of events. Sir also congratulated the team for a big success.
