Photography workshop at Mandala Auditorium in collaboration with Sony India

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication faculty of Media Studies and Humanities organized a two-day Photography workshop in collaboration with Sony India ” What makes you visual artist” on 16th & 17th November 2022 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Mandala Auditorium, MRIIRS.

The workshop was led by Mr Sameer Ashraf, Asia Pacific Photographer and mentor at Sony India. Mr Sameer Ashraf is a film maker, editor, and photojournalist and has worked for MTV, STAR Network, Discovery, and the National Geographic Network. It was an interactive session as Mr. Ashraf taught the students about the cameras, lighting and compositions required to become a good photojournalist. He also briefed about the manual settings of the camera. Sameer Ashraf interacted with the students and showcased them his various photographs. He conveyed different techniques that a photographer should use, what type of lighting should be done, what props have to be used, what type of equipment. He explained to the students about various types of lighting, shutter speed, exposure triangle, aperture and ISO. He also presented some examples so as to how to play with shutter speed to create different techniques of photos like light painting.

In the workshop, the students were told about the things they should keep in mind while doing photography. Students were curious and asked a variety of questions from the guest and he answered them very well. Mr Sameer Ashraf has created an award winning films on medical abnormalities, raped, and done many wildlife photography, landscape photography and fashion photography. Students were curious and asked a variety of questions from the technical aspect of camera and photography and also asked questions about gaining confidence in their skills. It was an insightful session for everyone.
