A guest lecture was organized by Department of Biotechnology on “Career opportunities in Patents & Copyright Industry” on 7^th November 2022. The talk was delivered by Mr. Rahul Bagga (Alumni), Founder and Managing Director, Aumirah. He explained the importance of Intellectual Property Rights in these days. He briefed about the Intellectual Property Rights which in general refers to the set of intangible assets including invention, creation, and contribution to the contemporaneous field of knowledge which is owned and legally protected by an individual or company from the outside use or implementation without approved consent. It has increasingly assumed a vital role with the rapid pace of technological, scientific and medical innovation that we are witnessing today. Moreover, changes in the global economic environment have influenced the development of business models where intellectual property is a central element establishing value and potential growth. He also mentioned the different types of IPR and its importance in different areas.  There are four types of intellectual property rights (IP): patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.

Followed by it, he spoke about the job opportunities in this field. Further he emphasized different work area where one can work.  He elaborated on the demand of IPR professional in product development company, hospitals, R&D labs, law firms. One can start-up or even start his own IP company, independent IP litigation practice or secure jobs as IP agents in different industries.
