GOOD HEALTH AND WELL BEING

MRIIRS places a great emphasis on community health and wellness as well as the health and wellbeing of its own students, professors, and staff. Using a comprehensive strategy, MRIIRS contributes to improving health and well-being by providing a range of health and counselling services on and off campus. The university’s mission is to improve healthcare delivery via the sharing of information and ongoing cooperation with community members. All students, employees and members of the local community can get the support they need with issues related to their physical health, emotional well-being, or sexual and reproductive health from the dedicated cells.

One of the goals of SDG 3 is to ensure that all people, regardless of their socioeconomic status, have access to quality healthcare. Its stated goal is to put a stop to epidemics and the needless loss of life among infants, toddlers, and young children (child mortality). The 2030 Agenda and sustainable development depend on people’s health. Considering the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, worldwide health and happiness must be a top priority.

 

  • Research in the areas of Health and Wellbeing 

MRIIRS has published more than 174 papers focusing on good health and wellbeing which makes 44% of total published papers in academic year 2021-22. The published papers published focused role of sports in health and well-being, diabetic neuropathy, adolescent health, nutritional health for various diseases, liver health, improving the lifestyle, macro and micronutrient for adults and children and on the interdisciplinary areas including tools to assess the health parameters etc. The dental sciences branch of MRIIRS is continuously working on finding out the solutions for the improvement of oral health. The publications focused on the topics like Nutritional aspects of Oral disorders, Smoking and risk factors, association between socioeconomic status, tobacco use, COVID-19 Vaccines are just to name a few.

 

  • Academic initiatives at MRIIRS towards Health and Well Being

Linked to the Sustainable Development Goals, MRIIRS’s rigorous pedagogical framework stands out for its quality and breadth. Throughout all our research cycles, we encourage the use of interdisciplinary approaches and a focus on sustainability. Programs leading to bachelor’s degrees and master’s degrees in physiotherapy, nutrition and dietetics, clinical psychology and dental sciences are available in MRIIRS. Students are routinely rotated through internships and clinical rotations in hospitals that offer care in a wide variety of specialties to help them meet their clinical objectives who will be a part of the community helping the medical system of the nation.

 

  • Collaborations with Health Services

MRIIRS has penned collaborations with a wide variety of health institutions at local, national and global level. The Global collaborations are concentrated on exchange of faculty members, undergraduate and/or graduate students, jointly supervising Master’s and Ph.D. students, developing curricula, exchanging academic information, joint research in the fields of mutual interest, conducting joint lectures, symposia, conferences, and investigating the potential for internships and sandwich programmes. The National collaborative goal is to advance health equity by utilising data, cultivating leaders, and igniting collaborations among the numerous sectors that are jointly accountable for constructing a more justifiable and equitable society. MRIIRS has collaborated with more than twenty of the local hospitals in the area for the clinical tie-ups and providing internships to the students

 

  • Health Outreach Programmes

In practice, the university conducts many health awareness, outreach programmes and projects, for the neighbourhood communities. Faculty of Dental Sciences and the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences conduct dental care, nutrition and physiotherapy health camps through mobile clinics and onsite camps which are managed by students and faculty members. Awareness programmes on health issues including mental health, antitobacco programmes and creating awareness about usage of sanitary napkins by girls and distributing the same in rural areas etc. are conducted on a regular basis both within and outside the precincts of the university. Blood Donation Camps are a regular feature, with around 6500 units of blood collected during recent years.

COVID awareness campaign was also undertaken by MRIIRS, and the team visited 5 adopted villages and created awareness among villagers regarding COVID and its vaccine. Student Volunteers shared the benefits of vaccination and took questions of villagers related to COVID vaccine and clarified their doubts during the pandemic period. MRIIRS also conducts huge number of outreach programmes in the area of Health and Well Being in collaboration with its ISR arm – Dr. O. P. Bhalla Foundation.

 

  • Sports Facilities at MRIIRS

MRIIRS lays huge emphasis sports events involving students from diverse groups to mingle with each other seamlessly and to come out as one harmonious outfit. This provides a great opportunity for a cultural coalescence and a training ground for participative engagement and teamwork. The President of India presented Manav Rachna with the Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar for its efforts to promote sports culture on campus.

There is a proven beneficial relationship between physical activity and academic success. MRIIRS has built its reputation on providing first-rate sporting venues with the same goal in mind. Considering the same, the staff members ensures that the sports facilities including grounds, courts, gymnasiums etc are remain maintained and are made available for the students, faculty/staff members and to the local community including local schools and general public. The Director sports, with the help of coaches and staff member, ensure proper utilization of the sports infrastructure, in addition to the conduct of regular sports meets among students, faculty and staff members.

Over the past year, Manav Rachna has hosted more than 32 contests and events for sports-minded students and faculty. All India Interuniversity Shooting Championship, University T20 Cricket Matches, Triangular Corporate Cricket Series 2021, and FIT India Freedom Run 2.0 are just a few examples. MRIIRS celebrate International Yoga Day in a grand manner as a month-long series of events based on yoga.  “Yoga Adhyaay 2.0”, was initiated under Manav Rachna Life Skill Program to promote skill sets to bring fitness changes amongst the participants. A yoga centre is also available at two different locations in MRIIRS campus which helps in holistic wellness of the faculties and students.

Under the direction of the Indian Paralympic Committee, MRIIRS held the country’s first-ever national paralympic shooting competition. MRIIRS also organised a National Kho Kho Coaching Camp to improve the knowledge and efficacy of Kho Kho Players and Coaches in achieving the desired results.

 

  • Sexual and Reproductive Health Care Services for Students

Access to quality sexual and reproductive health services plays a vital role in the well-being of a human being. The services cover a broad spectrum of care, including maternal and new-born care, access to contraception and the prevention and treatment of HIV or other sexually transmitted infections. We at MRIIRS strive to improve reproductive health services and maintain good sexual and reproductive health. MRIIRS supports by providing:

  • Sexual and reproductive health care education, assistance, awareness and counselling services for all the students.
  • In-campus facilities including Counselling Cell, Grievance Cell, separate Common Room for girls and Boys, all the females’ toilets are equipped with free sanitary pad dispensers and incinerators. Free sanitary pads distribution to all the female students was also an initiative towards female hygiene in MRIIRS.
  • Awareness through expert talks and outreach awareness camps being organised in the five adopted villages on the topics like mensural hygiene, safety camps, physiotherapy and nutritional advices in breastfeeding women.

 

  • Mental Health Support at MRIIRS

Ensuring good mental health of the campus population is the topmost priority of the Manav Rachna international Institute of Research and Studies. Healthy minds (physically, emotionally, psychologically and socially stable persons) are the pillars of sustainable development of any country. 

  • Faculty of Behavioral and Social Sciences at MRIIRS is one of the first institutes to boast of a ‘Human Lab’. It is the first lab in the entire Haryana and Delhi-NCR. Human Lab undertakes Assessment & Psychometric profiling to support for Emotional Behavioral and Mental problems.
  • MRIIRS Counselling Cell (मनोvriti: A Wellness Centre) provides support and assistance to students/employees/local community people in all areas of life. It also provides support related to LGBTQ issues, gender identity and sexual orientation or any other mental health related required support.
  • Mental Health initiative ‘SATHI’ (Support & Assistance through Telephonic Helpline for Individuals): was launched in 2020 during the pandemic with trained Clinical Psychologists to provide emotional First Aid and crisis management inputs, helping the people who were stressed out due to difficult times. To help citizens deal with their stress and emotions, SATHI (Support & Assistance through Telephonic Helpline for Individuals), a 24X7 helpline has been initiated. A substantial number of elderlies, students, working women, housewives, etc., mostly suffering from anxiety, fear and depression were taken care of through online counselling.
  • An annual mental health camp ‘SPARSH’ was launched to spread awareness about mental health and well-being through students.
  • A mental/psychological and dental health application ‘SUKOON’ has been launched as joint initiative of Dental and Engineering students to support dental and mental health related issues. Sukoon app aims at helping people, especially those with mild anxiety, stress and depression to self-manage their problems with the help of evidence based mental health exercises, journaling of thoughts, relaxing sounds and affirmations. The app will also be helpful to corporate employees and students to manage the stresses of their everyday life positively and easily. The application consists of various packages to deal with common problems of life like emotional distress, agitated mood, inability to sleep and stress.
  • An exhaustive mental wellness campaign has been conducted in the campus by the department of Psychology to spread awareness about Mental Health.
  • Student Grievance Redressal Cell and Staff/Faculty Grievance Redressal Committee have been constituted to support the students and employees and provide the resolutions for their respective Grievances.
